Spray on Bedliner Quality Control & Product Testing

At Elastomer Specialties the quality of our products is our highest priority. However a high quality material without consistent production is WORTHLESS! That’s why we have our own in-house laboratory with state of the art testing equipment and Quality Control measures in place. When we develop a new formulation it is first tested in our laboratory until we are confident of the material’s viability. Tensile Strength, Elongation, Die C Tear and Modulus of Elasticity are tested on our UNITED Tensile Test machine. We also conduct the products rebound capability using the BAYSHORE Rebound Test Method and incorporate ASTM certified equipment for testing compression set.

As with any elastomer coating that will be exposed to outdoor climates, it is important to know how low in temperature the material can go before it becomes brittle and cracks. In order to determine how our products perform at SUB ZERO temperature ranges, we send cured samples of our coatings to an independent testing facility for a GLASS TRANSITION, tg. This testing procedure is designed to determine the lowest limits of a product’s effective performance range, before failure occurs. All GatorHyde products have been tested using this system and some have an operating range in excess of -60° F which is excellent, especially if you live in the extreme Northwest or Alaska.

In order to determine how well a product holds up in constant exposure to extremely abrasive and rough materials, the TABOR® ABRASION TEST is called on. The entire family of GatorHyde products far exceeds the minimum TABOR® requirement level for a coatings continued performance. Chemical resistance testing is another test procedure to which all GatorHyde products are subjected and should be a requirement by all elastomer manufacturers. Again, various GatorHyde products offer exceptional resistance to petrol chemicals. (Note, always check specification data sheet for exact chemical resistance.)

Elastomer Specialties/GatorHyde coatings are manufactured in a consistent manner and liquid sample retains are taken from each batch for QC testing purposes. Blend dates and times are recorded for future reference. Every blend of our GatorHyde products is made using the highest quality of raw materials available, then packaged in a uniform and consistent fashion.

At GatorHyde, we’re proud of our products because we know they’re the best systems available in today’s industry. That’s why we publish our specification data sheets for you to see and to compare. Research & Development oriented, we are constantly striving to develop new and more exciting systems for unlimited market application using the latest in chemical technology.

The following computer print out shows final test results of a GatorHyde specimen.

These results indicate the 5-different Modulus of Elasticity, Tensile Strength and Elongation. The actual ASTM D412/638 test method can be seen at the top of the page. Note the Tensile strength of this product exceeds 7500 psi which far exceed most of the  elastomer based material currently available in today’s market.

This computer print out shows a graph curve indicating the various stages the sample product passes through as it is being stretched by the Tensile Tester. The graph stops slightly over the 7800 psi mark. This is where the “Dog Bone” test sample finally snapped. Again you can see at the top of the page the ASTM test method.
